Who is Google?

Posted by bigsky4 on August 23, 2007

I wonder just who this company called Google is?? We were walking down the information super-yellow-brick-road and stumbled upon this:

honda.googlepages.com

At first glance, I thought “Brilliant”…. but then I remembered that is a Guiness commercial slogan. Then, I thought to my cohorts, what is Google trying to do. This is a DEEP partnership with Honda. Google is a salesperson now. As I pondered the infamous words Google uttered: We will do no evil.

And, their mission statement: Google’s mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.

It seems to me, this is monopolistic…. some might even call it GoogleGreed. Just ask Microsoft and all the industry critics:

Well, they may have the rest of the world fooled…. but I know what they are up to. What’s next: Installing the Google Bar codes on our necks? Google Microchips embedded into our brains? That’s about the size of it. And, you can take THAT to the bank!

Searchandising

Posted by bigsky4 on August 8, 2007

What is Searchandising? Hmmmm, I’m not sure because it doesn’t hit the radar on Wikipedia:

Try this: Google it on Yahoo:

Interestingly, there are a few articles. But, I think it’s a first for me hearing this one. This internet thing might be here to stay. And, it’s quite a way to create a new vernacular. Every time I turn around, I hear a new online industry term. This time it is Searchandising.

Searchandising. What is it? Hmmmm, let’s make it up. Let’s feed Wiki. Better yet, maybe I should start a new world dictionary.

Searchandising definition: The use of a navigation tool on a website to enable site merchandising. Guided navigation will enable one-to-one product merchandising via landing page and product page merchandise placement. Quite a compelling term…. I’m impressed. Are you? Well, you heard it hear first…. probably. Peace out!

Personas

Posted by bigsky4 on August 8, 2007

Personas, what are they? Personas are characters or personalities developed to identify types of users that visit a website or purchase different types of products online. These general chacteristics can be applied to user types and segment targeting when doing marketing activities.  It seems like all the rage, eh?

Well, Personas definitely might be a tactic you want to use, but I want to explain how to use them to bring fun to your world. Try for instance, looking around you at the office. Who do you sit next to? Who sits down the aisle. What are their MO’s (modus operandi)? What are their likes and dislikes? Sit down for a second and think about it. Doodle your thoughts, and see what you come up with…. Personas!

Bingo, you know how to make Personas. First step in making your marketing work more effectively. Next, try incorporating it into your discussions and groupings while you work. Who needs to know what, who will understand x, y, z? How can I leverage x, y, z to help me with my mission.

It’s a fun game.  I think I will call it personas non gamis!
